While looking for active Russian travel forums noticed an extensive Old Believers (Old Rite) site in English. It is at www.byzcath.org. “Bizcath” probably stands for “Byzantine Catholicism”, another name for “Eastern Orthodoxy”.
It has been noticed that Old Believers are almost overrepresented here. No, I’m not one of them, and have no plans to join. But their escapism and “leave us alone” attitude appeals to the old grouchy antisocial me, and their cafeteria in Moscow is the star my list recommended eating establishment. Or it would be if they weren’t so stern on the subject of drinking. A proper Russian meal starts with a shot of vodka, and the dinner is followed by a nap! That’s a non-negotiable part of my personal belief system.
