Below is list from my 2010 page www.cheap-moscow.com/free_accommodation.htm. You may also want to check out real ancient (from late 90s) unclepasha.com/backpacker_moscow.htm. Yes, it is catching up in Russia but you need to do your homework. Generally people with enough skill to find free accommodation are doing well enough not to need it and vice versa.
- http://www.globalfreeloaders.com – Free accommodation. Nearly 700 offers from Russia as of March 2010.
- www.hospitalityclub.org – A free accommodation resource.
- www.stay4free.com – Several dozen of free/home exchange accommodation offers from Russia.
- www.couchsurfing.com – Lots of invitations from fun sounding people. Attention Russian bride seekers: 3/4 of them are women in the 20-30 age range.
Try looking among your ilk. Hippies and artistic types have a custom of вписка (vpiska, “register in”, from “propiska”). Use “Где вписаться в Москве” (“where do I register-in in Moscow”) as a search phrase. But this option is available for active people who contribute with their presence. Those whose letter consists of nothing but “Do you have anything free or cheap. I can teach English” don’t stand a chance.
