Gas filling stations: recommended and otherwise

Generally recommended: Shell and Lukoil.

Lukoil has been recently involved in scandals with one of its top dogs causing a fatal car accident and attempting to cover it up or something of that sort but the question was where to buy gas/diesel, not the luxury of making a statement.

Generally NOT recommended as of the last 2-3 years MORE>>

Inter-city bus and cruise ship schedules

Intercity buses from Moscow: www.busgo.ru. Think of $10-something per 100 miles as about the average cost. Or, if you are a large group, hiring a bus in the city will cost you $50-100 per hour, and up to $2 per mile for long hauls.

Cruise ships from Moscow: www.starflot.ru/cruise. Prices from $200 to $2000 per person per day, eg. the cheapest of the cheap one week cruises will cost you $1400.

Rent a car in St. Peters with a drop off in Moscow or vice versa

Possible, yes.Avis, among several others, will offer it. BUT THE COST IS AROUND 20 TH. ROUBLES ($700) JUST FOR THIS SERVICE ALONE, ON TOP OF THE DAILY RENTAL (AT THE VERY LEAST $150/DAY). Financially it will cost you about the same as to hire a driver with a car. See my www.moscowdrivers.net list. $1500 will cover a two-way trip regardless of time it takes.

If you know of a company that offers one-way rental without charging an outrageous amount please let me know. I know that special deal come up in the summer but does anybody offer one-way car rental at a reasonable rate? The total cost for one way economy car should be no more than $600-700.
