Gas filling stations: recommended and otherwise

Generally recommended: Shell and Lukoil.

Lukoil has been recently involved in scandals with one of its top dogs causing a fatal car accident and attempting to cover it up or something of that sort but the question was where to buy gas/diesel, not the luxury of making a statement.

Generally NOT recommended as of the last 2-3 years MORE>>

Another in-between to protect you from direct contact with the system

Sergei, +7 925 832 6101. Another heroic assistant in overcoming bureaucratic hurdles. I think it was him who made it considerably easier for me to get a piece of paper that was required to get another piece of paper that was etc. Or was it a safety check that as required to buy liability insurance? Specialization: auto and other transportation licences and related.

Inter-city bus and cruise ship schedules

Intercity buses from Moscow: Think of $10-something per 100 miles as about the average cost. Or, if you are a large group, hiring a bus in the city will cost you $50-100 per hour, and up to $2 per mile for long hauls.

Cruise ships from Moscow: Prices from $200 to $2000 per person per day, eg. the cheapest of the cheap one week cruises will cost you $1400.

Your last chance to sign up for “Winter is the Soul of Russia”

And dead season, when I can offer my time cheap is nearly over too. Gold Ring, Moscow to St. Petersburg, or a trip to Staritsa along the Old Riga road. It can even be done camping style to save you a bundle on hotels and restaurant meals, and of course to make it more of an “experience”. MORE>>

Camper parking in or very close to Moscow

In Sokolniki park, highly recommended if they open up this season: In English!

A compilation of resources in campers and equipped campgrounds:

A campground just north-east from Moscow:, + 7 916 117-3313.

A campground near Sergiev Posad, on the Torbeyevo lake:, +7 495 857-3611.

All but Sokolniki cater the the local market and may not be able to easily interact with non Russian speakers.

Just a reminder that a camper can be rented from me by qualified clients. I can also arrange camping trips around Gold Ring or between Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Rent a car in St. Peters with a drop off in Moscow or vice versa

Possible, yes.Avis, among several others, will offer it. BUT THE COST IS AROUND 20 TH. ROUBLES ($700) JUST FOR THIS SERVICE ALONE, ON TOP OF THE DAILY RENTAL (AT THE VERY LEAST $150/DAY). Financially it will cost you about the same as to hire a driver with a car. See my list. $1500 will cover a two-way trip regardless of time it takes.

If you know of a company that offers one-way rental without charging an outrageous amount please let me know. I know that special deal come up in the summer but does anybody offer one-way car rental at a reasonable rate? The total cost for one way economy car should be no more than $600-700.
